Casual Wool Skirt - Simplicity 2475

Project Details
I am trying to build an “Everyday Wardrobe.”  That is a wardrobe of items that are comfortable and that I feel worthy of wearing every day.  This lightweight wool skirt with contour yoke and slimming seams fits that requirement.

Skirt
Pattern – Amazing Fit Collection, Simplicity 2475, View B
Notions – 2 yards polyester organza, one 7” invisible zipper, hook and eye, three pkgs. seam binding, one pkg. hem lace, 7/8 yard of fusible interfacing, thread
Fabric – 2 yards brown lightweight wool (Hancock Fabrics)

This skirt is an item from the Amazing Fit Collection of Simplicity Patterns.  I cut View B in a size 8 for curvy fit.  This pattern is drafted with 1 inch seam allowances in all the important places.  I underlined my skirt with polyester organza, inserted an invisible side zipper and finished seams with binding and hemline with hem lace.  The only adjustments I made were: 1. Shortened the skirt length to petite standards.  2. Nipped the waistline yoke by 1 inch.

I just wanted to note that on the Simplicity Pattern’s website under Patterns/Special Collections a new collection called Fit For Petite has been added featuring all the Simplicity Patterns that include adjustments for petite sizing!  Thank you Simplicity!

Conclusion
I have finished the skirt projects that were in my stash.  I will now proceed to make some tops!  I have purchased the “Classic Tailored Shirt” online class from Craftsy.

  1. Your skirt looks very nice! Good job :). Do you find the polyester organza different to work with from the silk organza?

  4. JuliN, polyester organza does not breathe as well as silk so I would not use it to underline a full dress or jacket. I would get too hot wearing it. But I find that it works well in casual skirts. You must also watch your iron temperature when pressing polyester organza.

  6. This skirt fits you great!

I have considered trying out a Simplicity Perfect Fit pattern to see how they fit.

A tailored shirt class sounds amazing. I think it would be wonderful to be able to make yourself the perfect button down shirt. I can't wait to hear how it goes.
